After that, the overheating engine light came on. Any suggestions on what the problem might be??? HELP, PLEASE!!! (The only other symptom has been a slight rubbing sound for several weeks--only when the vehicle was moving...)

You broke your serpentine belt. I'm not sure what the year make and model of your car is, but they are quite simple and inexpensive. P.S. In all cars the serp belt connects the alternator (battery light), power steering pump (couldnt steer), and water pump (overheating).

sounds like you lost a belt, which in turn cut off your alternator, then no power of course. Go check for the serpentine belt under the hood, you probably lost it on the road somewhere. Simple to replace, but you had better do it right away.

Did any of ur belts brake/snap. Sounds as if ur belt snapped off due to the turning and over heating problem. Just a guess sry if u have already checked

you threw off your drive belt...probably a serpantine belt. Open the hood you will see there is no belt going around the pulleys. The noise you heard under the car was the belt coming off and going under the car. Get it fixed...don't drive the car until you do our you will ruin the engine.

You lost a fan belt, or a pulley broke. Have a friend look at it, or have it towed to a shop. Do not drive it anyywhere.

Susan, this all happens when the engine is no longer running, When it stalls all this stuff quits working and a bunch of lights come on. I am guessing you are a new driver.Try restarting the engine.
