Adopt one!!!! From your local shelter. There are many great pets out there in shelters, you'll be doing such a great deed.
As long as you're sure you will be able to take care of him/her properly.

Depending on what kind of pet you want they are several options. National pet stores, ie. Petco or Petsmart, usually have a variety of basic pets, fish, frogs, lizzards, snakes, mice, gerbils, hamsters, rats and guinea pigs. Some also have rabbits, ferrets, cats, dogs, birds and other larger animals.

Personally, I would not reccomend getting a pet from one of the big companies as they tend to get their animals from places where they breed them just for selling purposes and are generally not taken care of. If at all possible though, I encourage you to adopt from a friend or an animal shelter so you give a home to a pet that really needs it! Many many animals are euthanized because animal shelters do not have room for them! If you must adopt from a pet store, try to get one from a local buisness. You can always ask if they know of any breeders in your area that have available pets. Also, there are sometimes posters there for pets that need a home. The newspaper is another option.

If you are thinking of getting a rabbit, go to www.rabbit.org. They are a national organization called the House Rabbit Society and they take in bunnies that need a home and take care of them until someone is willing to adopt. They are very reliable and trustworthy and I assure you you will find a loving bunny there! I myself got my two bunnies from them.

You can always ask around at work or school to see if anyone has a pet they don't want anymore.

Another online option is http://www.petfinder.com/

First of all you go to Petfinder .com or through a paper in your hometown that way you can see the parents of the pups and meet the breeder. Go to your Humane Society or rescue also there are a lot of mixed breeds that need homes too. I went on the internet through Petfinder. My Papillon came from Missouri. That is the breed I was looking for. Make sure you investigate the breeder too. You also can go to the AKC website and they have a list of breeder for the type of dog that you would want. What type of dog are you looking for ?Do you want a thorough bred or a mixed breed? Do you have the room for a large dog ? Do you live in an apartment? You have to ask yourself a lot of questions before you decide to get a pet because they are yours for life.

umm, the internet is a great place to start. places like pets4u.com or petfinder.com are great places to find good lovable pets that owners can't keep. my friend got a boxer off of petfinder and i got a black cat. both animals are doing great. there are also many other places on the internet to find a pet or if u would like a purebread theres breeders.com. another easy way is go to ur local animal shelter. anyway hope that helps.

Do you know what kind you want? There is the newspaper, bulletin boards, people from work giving them away. I even got one of mine at the vets. She and her other siblings were in a large cage in the waiting room up for adoption. I couldn't resist her.
Do you have the time to walk and exercise a dog and the room. Check to see if there is a leash law in your town. Will this pet be indoor or outdoor? (cat or dog) Do you travel alot? (fish) Do you mind cleaning cages? (hamsters, birds, lizards, etc.)
