He screwed up. The president is suppose to lead. And when local governments are overwhelmed and break down because of an enormous catastrophe the U.S. government should step in. We use our tax money to go rescue other people in other countries and go to fight wars based on lies but when the truth of a disaster hits our nation Bush is either at his Ranch or reading my pet goat. And Bush even said Brownie your doing a heck of a job then days later fired him. If you got deep pockets of a corporation to buy his ear he'll listen otherwise forget about it.

I think the Mayor of New Orleans and Governor Louisiana are the people to be held accountable. I guess it's just easier for people to blame their favorite target. Why didn't the Governor order the National guard into the city and declare Marshall Law? Granted the US Government should be better prepared to handle an emergency like that, but then again the individual states should also be prepared. The citizens of New Orleans have known since the city was first settled that it was in danger of being flooded by a hurricane. Also, how about we take a long hard look at the people who wouldn't leave the city. Yes the argument can be made that "some" of them didn't have the means to leave, but some also stayed of their own free will. President Bush isn't the one to blame the whole system and the some of the "victims" are.

Get over it already. Bush didn't fail. The Democratic governer of Louisiana, the Democratic mayor of New Orleans, and the slow-witted citizens of New Orleans failed big time and have done nothing but try to blame Bush for their mistakes ever since. Look, if you're standing on railroad tracks and there's a train coming your way at 30 miles per hour, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the need to get off the tracks before the train gets there. Bush's only failure was in allowing those dipshits to blame him for their stupidity.

as much as I dislike Republicians the president is in no fault for a natural disaster the prsident does care about the people in New Orleans. But he has a lot on his plate. I blam Fema for the troubles geting releif and the head guy of fema was fired.I beleive that their should have been a quicker response after Katrina. Then again the people were told to evacuate. So you could blame the people for not evacuating. Perrsonally i pray for the people every day.

Yes GW Bush the President did care about his people in New Orleans, and so did most people and Churches throughout the Country. Why would you not pay more attention to correcting the typographical errors in your question, rather than finding fault and criticizing the President, and unjustly at that. What were you in the time of that huricane, were you there helping?

He went wrong by being president, the buck always stops at the top. I'm certain he cared a great deal about anyone who could no longer vote for him, however, it appeared to me that he believed liars, especially since they knew before hand that they were at risk, like Californians know they are at risk, and Hawaii is at risk. In fact, life is a risk. The difference is only that in the US we seem to think it is the duty of someone else to save us. If everyone who took their hairdryer, makeup, and jewelry when they left had taken another person, none would have died!

The mayor didn't tell the people to get out.
The governor didn't tell the people to get out.
Nobody took it seriously.
In the aftermath, the mayor stood around and shot his mouth off, and so did the governor. Yes, FEMA didn't act in a timely manner; and when the President found out, he had that director removed and did all he could do to rectify the situation.
Now, my question to you is...
The people of LA knew A WEEK IN ADVANCE that Katrina was coming and they did nothing. They could have been evacuated but they DID NOTHING.
Why does the government have to step in and take care of people who will not take responsibility for themselves??

"President Bush visited New Orleans on the one-year anniversary of Katrina. It also marked the six month anniversary of the Bush administration finding out about Katrina".

One of my favorite jokes on the manner, courtesy of Conan O Brien. However, it gets the point across. The administration failed to acknowledge the situation, both before and after the Katrina tragedy, and FEMA's emergency aid was too little too late.

HE told them to get out! He told New Orleans that they needed to get out or else. It was the failure of the LOCAL government that resulted in the disaster. As much as I don't agree with Bush on everything, this is one thing he did right. The local gov't told them that it was okay to stay and that nothing would happen. The federal gov't had no power in making the citizens stay or go. That was the responsibility of the state, and they failed.
