It was called "Runaway Robots : Romie-O and Julie-8" and was produced by Nelvana Studios in Canada. It was first broadcast by the CBC in 1979. For more information , here's a site:

Well, I don't know any Romeo & Juliet from that time, but I know there's a new Romeo X Juliet coming soon. It's an anime from Gonzo. It'll be out in Japan in 2007, I guess.
