Will it be through analysis of radio/light waves?
Will it be a physical encounter?
Or some other method?

I think likely it will be a physical encounter ;
The reason is if you consider how far we have come in the last 50 years think of how far a species could have advanced in a million years after acquiring space travel capabilities.
There aree several reason another space faring species likely ar either aware of us or close to being so.
It stands to reason there would be billions of species which would not have had the turmoil our ancestors had on earth, thus enabling them to advance further.
There would have to be millions of species which never adapted the religious fevers our ancestors did and thus they did not have their entire civilizations in bondage to myths.
There has to be millions of species on millions of planets who would not think like humans but act instead more like insects (ants, bees, ect) in which the entire species would act in sequences together and not splintered as earthlins are. This would increase their chances of space travel even lignt speed and beyond by 1,000,000 %.
In planetary societies where the entire species worked together to futher space travel and colonlization we would be very inferor were they to meet us.
The universe is so large in itself that the time when will humans meeting another species is going to happen because there has to be already so many space faring species out there.. It's not if. It's when. And they may very well be watching us now for possibilities.
A species bent only on survival in mind and colonization would hardly consider us worth negotating wiith for peace. The may well not under stand anything byut their own survival and expansion.

A eccentric scientist will invent an engine that can be used for interstellar travel. He will test out his invention. At the same time an Alain space craft will see the test and will pursue a visit here. The Aliens will be a pale green, with pointy ears, and a mid 60's hear cut.And will greet us by saying.Liv long and prosper. We come from Vulcan.

It will likely be one of those things where we think we have *just* got some sort of quantum computer built and running correctly, when we start getting messages, in Morse Code no less, asking us, "Ok, what took you so long?" *lol* ;) Really, quantum tunneling is the only thing I can think of where a signal can be sent faster than the speed of light in a vacuum (by way of entanglement of particles).

Either that, or it will be some sort of a "note in a bottle" kind of strategy, rather like what we did with the Voyager satellite. Only question then will be...what will the bottle and/or the note look like?

Assuming, of course, that all of the intelligent life in the universe hasn't already taken one look at us, collectively went "ewww, they are *disgusting*," and ran off, telling their friends, "avoid those guys! They're NUTS!" :)

Just saying. :)

I believe Eartha -- relies upon in the event that they appear like the nice and cozy, eco-friendly chicks from "celeb Trek" or they seem to be a very non-humanoid creature. maximum folk do not think of sexual concepts approximately their pets. yet whilst the extraterrestrial beings had some beautiful characteristic, and, if the astronauts we could sent -- after an prolonged, long journey -- did not have a mix of adult males and girls human beings on board (or they did not get into gay intercourse, despite) -- then that eco-friendly woman could start to look extraordinarily darned stable. the respond -- approximately 2 hours.

I dont think it will happin for a long time. If they have advanced science enough to have light speed and worm holes to travle, then they will have advanced enough sociologists to know we cant live next doory to people with out wanting to kill them, so they know we arnt ready for Aliens.

probably in like 2060 or so, voyager2 should pass through the milky way. It will eventually find ap lanet with other life. I'm guessing by then though we will be much more advanced, however the aliens will probably be able to track voyager from where it cam from, Earth. Then it will probably be very, very, hostile. Earth will probably shoot tons of Nukes at them. Or if we design better bombs by then i bet they will use them.

NASA sent a message to aliens, on a satellite, sent out of our solar system, with a pictorial graph of how to find us, along with some message. NASA gotcha beat i reckon!
