I have never used any video editing software and was going to start by trying to use windows movie maker. I don't know how to connect the vcr to the pc. Is there a standard usb to av wire connection cable that I need for windows to recognize my vcr or camcorder. It is an analog camcorder. Is it better to buy different software that comes with the physical connection hardware? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm interested in transferring analog video from vcr/camcorder to dvd and also editing (making highlights from transferred video).

i don't know if there is a usb to av wire available. but u can easily transfer videos from your analog cam to ur PC by using a capture card, or a TV tuner Card. Buy a Tv tuner card, install it using the software available with it. then take the AVout of your cam and connect it to the AVin of the tuner card. Configure the card's input to be AV, then just record or capture the video........( Be aware that u may need to have an internal TV tuner card to do recording as many of the external tuner cards doesn't support recording option).....Best of luck.........
