over all. very good. i am overqualified for much i want tod so don't get return calls for some work.
if i don't who will?
what is your favorite cause, kids? pollution? animals? cure for stupidity? there is an association for just about anything ou can come up with. if you live in a larger city, look in the yellow pages under associations, organizations, or fraternal groups.
if you have time, somebody will use you.
to start, you'll do grunt work, just to see if you'll stick around. if you do you'll rise fairly quickly, because the turnover is high.
i got some great training on how to be a good boss as a volunteer. i met some notable people. i still volunteer, because it is needed.
if you go to school, the boards have regular requests.
this time of year salvation army needs help. i try to work inh a kitchen washing pots and pans because it isn't cool, and few are willing to do it. if you feed a lot of people, you have a lot of pots and pans.
it isn't cool, but when women see men doing pots and pans they get very freindly. when the managers see you do a good job at scut work, when something better comes along, frequently you are considered. the nice thing about vol, is you can say no.
i have worked into paid positions this way.
i have my act together, i take care of business, i always get ahead.
if you are a mouth runner, stay away, if you are willing to do what is needed, not what is cool, you'll do well.
good luck

I did it through a local church, a clothing and food minestry for the poor. I did it out of a need to serve because I believe that that is why we are here. That if everyone looked st their lives as service to others and not as a means to get rivh or have more, we would be so much better off. We had to go through all the donated things and get rid of useless things. Our motto, id we wouldn't wear it we don't give it to others. So, please do not donate stained or torn or otherwise useless clothing, please. But we also fed families when they had no food, i live in a very depressed area and there is great need for the basics of life here. so, families without jobs, education or any form of income but maybe food stamps and maybe help with rent would run out before the month did. People burnt out needed furniture and clothing and food and utilities. So, wheather you can work and donate money to a local place, religious or not, then do that. people need money too for heat and water and things besides food and clothing. We were open to the public twice a month on Wed. and anytime if it was an emergency. But the work went on from Mon. to Sat. if needed. So, wheather it's money, helping in a food kitchen, a homeless shelter or a shelter for battered women and children. Whatever it is that you can give, time, things, food, money, just whatever God puts on your heart to do...that is what you should do. Then when He changes your calling move on to something else. Everything is for a season and doing something is better than doing nothing. I commend you and may God bless you and send you to the right place. There was an Americor or Americorp that was atarted a few yrs. ago, I thought ig got groups and people together. You can call a local church, Chamber of commerce, local charities and ask what they need. Right now it's probably everything. Good luck.

Are you in US or UK? I'm in UK and I do volunteer work at a stray dog's home and also for Crisis (homeless charity) at Christmas. I do the dog's home because i'm crazy about animals and I do Crisis because, well to be honest, I find Christmas pretty boring and don't like sitting around for days eating and doing nothing.
I got it from the Internet. The dog's home was surprising difficult. I had to wait months for it because it is the largest dog's home in London and pretty popular. Crisis was easy to get. Just fill in application form. The internet is the place to look.

Check out your local volunteer bureau. I did 4 months away from home with Community Service Volunteers. There is also VSO - Voluntary Services Overseas.
I did it for my CV to get into the field I wanted - It also helped me decide what I wanted to do.
UPDATE TO MY ANSWER
check out www.do-it.org.uk. Lists all volunteers needed in your area in the UK. You can select which type of work. It will link you up with some good stuff. Hope you enjoy it!!!
You can also go to www.csv.org.uk.
I did my voluntary work as a befriender - had a group of people I visited ranging from a person with mental health needs who wanted to go to the pub, to a 17 year old guy with autism whose mum needed a couple of hours off so we went to the park.

I volunteer at a hospital. I do it b/c it actually gives me a great feeling inside knowing that i'm helping somebody. There's a lot of volunteer work out there. You can volunteer at the hospital like myself by calling the hospital. Most hospitals have a volunteer department that you can contact. You can also volunteer at animal shelters.

Go online, type in charities, hit search. There are hundreds of organizations that need help. Habitat for Humanity is a good place to devote your time. Offer to help out at your local schools, they can always use an extra set of hands in the classrooms. Meals on Wheels always needs delivery people. Just tossin' out a few ideas for you.

I do a lot of fund raising for the McMillan nurses, raffles, coffee mornings and even some crazy stuff, I help them because they were fantastic with my mom when she was dying of breast cancer, not only did they help her but they helped all the family too, wonderful people and I don't know what I would have done without them, so now I do what I can to help them raise funds.
