Football rules: What action (if any) is given if, off the ball, Player A backs into Player B (Allowing Player C, who has the ball, a little more time and space)? Is this an infringement? What are the FIFA rules on this?
Cheers

obstruction whether it is meant or not. player b awarded an indirect free kick. the time when this rule is most abused(ignored by refs)is when a player is "sheilding" a ball to run out of play.the defender hasn't touched it so its not in his control, and he blatently obstructs a forward from playing the ball with no intention of playing it himself.

Now this really depends on who the referee is and who the players are. For instance if the ref is Graham Poll, Player A is Alan Shearer, Player B is a defender and Player C is Shearer's teammate, the decision would be play on. On the other hand if the ref is foreign, Player A is Peter Crouch, Player B is a defender, then the decision would be a foul to Player B.

Depends whether it is accidental or deliberate.

If it is accidental then normally it will be passed over. If it is judged to be deliberate then the player may be called for obstruction, which is a yellow card offence.

Depends on how the ref looks at it really.

The other answers are sufficient; it's possibly an obstruction. Although basketball and soccer have some similarities ("dribbling" and "shooting" into a net for goals), "picks" are not legal in soccer. Here's an excellent site to check out for answers to questions like this: http://asktheref.com/

well.... thats called blocking, right? and thats totally leagal... well from the club rules i play by, it is. its blocking, but id player A turns around and pushes, punches, hip-checks, player B then its a penalty against player A & C's team, and player B gets the ball. =)
