Free? no such thing as free. Not anymore.
Free websites have viruses, spyware, malware, rootkits, and, potential law suits to teens and their parents.
While I think the music industry is being idiotic by suing kids and their parents, they certainly are within their rights to do so.
I also agree the music industry needs to get their act together, and use this technology. But, the d/l price is rediculous-- to me.
Now, if you want to have music players, and not download and carry, I use I-Tunes. There's also XM, with AOL's I/M. Rhapsody. MTV has Urge. You will have to pay to download. But, you have the option to listen to your style of music for free. There may be non-malicious spyware involved tho.

An easy way to download tons of free and purportedly legal music.
Search for a song by hitting 'Guide' in Windows Media Player. Once it starts playing, right click on the title and click 'Properties'. Select everything that is under 'Location' and copy it.
Then, make a text file on your desktop and rename it to 'song.html'. Open the file in Wordpad and insert the following:
Then open the html file and right click on the hyperlink. Click "Save Target As" and save the file to your computer.
Voila! You have music.
Hope this helped.

try MySpace.Com
look up the band you want songs of
and on the Player you might be able to download
some songs for free and without viruses
no screen name required
i don't know any other sites
and MySpace is limited on songs you can get
if you are willing to download a program
try LimeWire
i've heard great things about it
and it is supposed to be virus free
hope that helps
