2. how to be punctual - on time
3. how to compromise
4. how to cooperate
5. sensitivity, compassion, and kindness
6. how to help others
7. an understanding that there will always be people you don't necessarily like, and there is nothing you can do about it, but they are people too
8. the understanding that it is ok to be different
9. tolerance
10. work ethic

......... to name a few. I hope this helps.

I firmly believe in practical work. Children should be taught what working means, and that can be achieved by practical, community-service oriented tasks. Especially city-raised children have no idea where the things they take for granted come from. If nothing else, I would make it the responsibility of the students to clean the school, to run the library under the supervision of a librarian, and all the other jobs around a school. There are numerous benefits, first and foremost being responsibility and valuing work done for you by others, as well as a taste of real life. When I was 16, my father told me he wouldn't be able to pay for my college tuition and that we have to work together to have enough. That was the best lesson he taught me.

they should teach you more about personal finances and all the risks of credit/store cards, laons, overdrafts and all that sort of stuff. the amount of kids who as soon as they hit 18 and get a credit card or what ever and before they know it they're up to thheir eye balls in debt or go to uni and blow a terms worth of student loan in freshers week is crazy. ok so theres always going to be the odd one or 5 who does this but atleast if they weree taugh perhaps it wouldnt be so many.

also about respect and sex education, thats a double team effort between the parents and schools. some parents may not agree that kids should be taught about the birds n the bees but have you seen the rate of teenage pregnancy in the u.k? we the european leaders in that market...not that thats anything to boast about but do we really want that title?

also discilin, bring back the cane then im sure there wouldnt be so many gobby little shits on the streets. teachers shouldnt have to worry that little johnnys or tracys dads going to come in and have a go if the kids been out of order or disruptive. perhaps theres a point about parenting class as so many kids see it as an easy option to get benefits and a flat.

or even better bring back two years national service for people between 18 and 25. perhaps if some of them went over to iraq they wouoldnt be such **** holes when they came back

money management would be a great help, it would stop so many peopel getting into debt. lessons in respect for authority figures also needs to be reinforced in many cases now a days. i think the most important of all is to live life. you always have two types of people, ones that work hard, and ones that party hard. people need to be taught that if you manage your time well, you can work and party hard at the same time (well more or less!!). kids coming out of school don't often realise that this is the case.

Self respect.... All the rest can follow (bar the finance which I agree, is important.... but we students DO get loads of advice on this- you can take a horse to water......)

Teaching basic self- respect would (I believe) sort out all the issues associated with sex ed that currently isnt working:
eg. pregnacies/ STDS - if a young girl figures out self respect means tyou can insist on a condom, the jobs sorted! I'd imagine it would help with poor self esteem and body images..... From self respect would come personal worth, one would hope.

Likewise, from self respect comes respect for others- both essential in dealing with most of your life in a positive strong way......

There is so much that teachers already have to deal with, it does seem like they face insurmountable problems.... Parenting school that are NOT just as punishment would seem like a good idea.... Open to all and without stigma attached. It would take the pressure off teachers and allow them to get back to teacher children proper english (communication skills being the by product of this!!).
