Yeah, it's Phantom Planet and the drummer for that band is Jason Shwartzman (the famous actor from Marie Antoinette,Shopgirl, Bewitched, I Heart Huckabees, etc). Great band!

Phantom Planet did two covers of California. The original was titled "California" and created in 2003 with the actor/drummer Jason Schwartzman. He left the band to act, and was replaced. They made another cover titled "California 2005" in 2005 respectively, which was used during the third season of The OC.
