Well he is a lot older but I don't think that's a problem. It's sad about your parents and you but if they were with you maybe you could ask them. I don't think there are any laws or anything like that against your situation. I mean why in the world should you stop liking someone
or dating someone or something like that just because of their age?

Age Of Consent In Maine

2016-10-03 08:09:52 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

People commonly use the term "statutory rape" to mean where sex is implied, and need not actually occur for there to be a crime. I'm not able to find any such provision in Maine at a single reading.

It appears that the age of consent to sexual activity is 16. Consensual sexual activity becomes rape if one party is under 18 and the other 21 and employed by the school the younger one attends. If that isn't the case, I don't guess he has much to worry about.

You, on the other hand, need some serious counseling. You have chosen a boy who is emotionally arrested in high school. He isn't going to grow up with you, he will either keep you where you are, or you will grow past him. Neither will be good for you emotionally.

Im not sure if this is legal or not but beyond that I think you (whichever side you are on) will regret marrying someone else at such a young age. Even if the 16 yr old is highly mature, people change so much overtime. Also, you might want to consider the expenses, taxes, moral bacdklash, and even getting bored with the other person that will happen. Been there. Done that. If you truly love eachother then you should have no problem not being legally married because you should be married emotionally speaking. <3

Statutory rape laws define the age below which an individual is legally incapable of consenting to sexual activity; statutory rape laws assume that all activities with individuals below this age are coercive, even if both parties believe their participation is voluntary or consensual. The penal code or criminal code of each state dictates the specific sexual acts that constitute a felony or misdemeanor offense of statutory rape. A common misconception is that the age of consent is the single factor that determines the legality of sexual activity. However, there are only 12 states that have a single age of consent. For instance, in California, statutory rape is defined as: “An act of sexual intercourse accomplished with a person who is not the spouse of the perpetrator, if the person is a minor, a person under the age of 18" (Penal Code § 261.5(a)). New York also, has a single age of consent: If the victim is under 17 and the perpetrator is any age, this constitutes a misdemeanor sexual offense (Article 130, New York Penal Code). In the remaining 39 states, the legal nature of sexual intercourse is determined by age differentials between the child and defendant, the minimum age of the child, and/or the minimum age of the defendant. In Texas, for instance, the age of consent is 17 and the minimum age of child is 14 with an age differential of 3 years; thus, individuals who are at least 14 years of age can legally engage in sexual activities if the defendant is less than 3 years older than the accuser (Texas Penal Code § 22.011(a)(2)).

Maine, age 16: Gross sexual assault if actor engages in sexual act with victim <14. Sexual abuse of minor if victim is aged 14-15 and actor is >=19 and five years older than victim.

You are only 16. You may think you know something about life and the world, but you do not. Save yourself some grief and break off the relationship. At this stage of your life, the eight-year age difference is substantial.

A vast majority of 24-year-old guys do not hang around 16-year-old girls, and vice versa. There's a reason for this.

It sounds like you want to marry for the wrong reasons. You are running away from something rather than running to something- a life together based on love.
If you two have had sex- he could go to jail.

I wish you the best. You are in a tough situation.
