Forget the old wives tale. If you have sex when you are on your period the blood is already at the surface of the vagina so you become more sensitive and have some of the greatest sex you have ever had. The cleanup may be messy, but in the long run it is definitely worth it.

If you and your partner are both up for it, sure! Some women feel unappealing during their period, and a fair number of men are unattracted by the blood, but it is safe and if you're both up for it, fun. Some women find that orgasm actually helps menstrual cramps.
If you are concerned about the blood, a diaphragm or Divacup/Instead cup is a good blood blocker... or lovemaking in the shower helps keep things tidy.

Of course you can! There is nothing wrong with it at all. Put a towel under you or do it in the shower.
