Personally, I have never read a romance novel. And I have not read a fictional novel since grade school. I prefer documentary, news, biography, etc. Nothing that is made up,fictional. So, not all women read romance novels. God bless****

I would hardly call them "intriguing". I read bodice rippers occasionally, but it's not because I even think they're decent literature. They're not. They are completely formulaic to the point where I can guess what each character will say next. The few ventures I make into more modern romances don't seem any different. Honestly, how many women in their late twenties are even still virgins? According to these books, every single freakin' one. Sheesh.
I still read them, though. Why? Well, first, I'm a big reader in general, and sometimes I want something that doesn't require much thought. It's the literary equivalent of watching Jerry Springer, but without decent moral lessons. Also, I am human. I like porn. I haven't found much erotica that I really like, because I'm rather vanilla in my tastes, so I stick with the romance novels. The sex may all be the same, but it is good sex, and there are rarely whips, chains, or chickens.

That's a gross generalization of women, but it is true that some women do. In romance novels men act very chivalrous and "knight in shining armor" like, which women (those who believe in romance) believe their boyfriends, husbands, men in general should act. Although, of course no one is perfect or even close to it, so those women who originally read the romance novels continue to read the novels so they can immerse themselves in the fantasy land of perfect romance that cannot be achieved in reality. It's nice to know that at least in books men treat women with respect and sweep them off their feet.

so i have never read a romance novel, but it has always been my thought that women who do must really enjoy reading about lust, sex & romance. apparently, it must do something for them by feeding their sexual fantasies. it must fill a void in their lives either where they don't have a significant other or where that person lacks in the romance area.
personally, i would rather take care of those issues in other ways... if you get my drift...

All novels hinge on stress. people who study romance novels get exhilaration from the romantic stress between the hero and heroine, the question of how and in the event that they are able to ever social gathering. people who like journey or fantasy novels like the stress of in spite of if or no longer the hero/heroine might have the skill to end their quest without getting killed, or in spite of. people who like literary fiction feed off the stress of how the character will gain their purpose, substitute into their real selves, in spite of. comparable tale, distinctive genres. in my opinion i do no longer think of taking area in a narrative approximately in spite of if or no longer a guy and woman social gathering is any extra strange than liking approximately e book approximately in spite of if a individual will stay on the scheme of a pissed-off wizard or in spite of if a Victorian female will marry for money or substitute right into a scholarly spinster. Erotica is a distinctive tale. maximum women individuals who study romance novels do no longer study erotica, and quite a number of alternative of them will pass over the intercourse scenes in a extensive-unfold novel because of the fact they locate them uninteresting. they are examining for the buzz the stress delivers, no longer the intercourse. Erotica and romance are separate genres, in spite of the reality that they do overlap at circumstances.

Who ever said they were intriguing? Puh-leeze! They're formulaic and predictable and totally unrealistic. Comic books for adults. Stupid happy endings. 6th grade reading level. Probably written for women who can't handle Danielle Steele's vocabulary.

I've never even seen one and never had a shred of interest in that foolishness - and I'm fairly certain that the majority of women are the same as I am.
