The United States society does seem to be rather sex obsessed despite the fact that, on a whole, we try our damn hardest NOT to talk about it. People are supporting abstinence only education (which not even acknowledgement to "if you do it, this is what you should use to avoid pregnancy"), there is tons of misinformation about sex, ("if you douche with coke after you have sex you won't get pregnant"), and sex and sexuality is used in our advertising that we see EVERYDAY...yet we don't want to talk about it.
So, we have a culture which is sex obsessed and uses sex to sell things but we just don't want our kids exposed to it. Movies with sex have a higher rating than movies with violence EVEN THOUGH it is a popular idea that violence on TV is the problem with this society. Well, then don't show violence on TV. Some popular music talks about sex, specifically sex which is fairly degrading to women (I hate to use this as a reference as I don't really want to perpetuate this stereotype, but it is the only one that comes to mind that really irks me - it's from the Ying Yang Twins song called "Wait (The Whisper Song)" which details how they are going to f*uck a woman, degrade a woman, and, in general "beat dat p*ssy up."). This song portrays sex as something which, if the man wants it, he'll get it. ("Mind if i touch it? and see if its soft/ Naw i'm jus playin' lets just say i can" This line is about him asking if he can touch her *ss, but then recinds the offer for consent and assumes that it's ok - while this is not sexual violence, exactly, it certainly sets the stage for it, the assumptiong that someone, in this case a man, can just touch someone else, a woman, just because he wants to. Unacceptable.) Moreover, that was a pretty popular song. So much of it was edited from the radio, yet it was played constantly.
Another message we recieve is that sex is male-dominated. It is about the all mighty penis and who likes it, who wants it, and where. The penis, the phallus, is kind of worshipped in a very strange way. Derogatory insults of body parts are typically female body parts (do "c*nt," "p*ssy," or "tw*t" ring a bell?). What does the male anatomy get? ("d*ck,"...and what else? How often to you hear someone being highly insulted with "d*ck" as opposed to "c*nt"?). Insults are highly sexualized. While this is not really unusual, I am not really too well versed in the vulgar insults of other languages so I can't speak for them. But, my point of all this is that when people being insulted for whatever, it is bringing sex into the conversation whether you know it or not. And moreover, using slurs which are derived from the female body only serve to support the notion that women are subservient to men, even their body parts suck.
Really, the society of the United States on a whole is SUPER sex obsessed. Everyone is doing at earlier ages, yet we don't want people to know about it. Why? Doesn't that seem strange and kind of contradictory? Essentially, the society is saturated with images sex but the message we are getting is that we shouldn't have sex, it's bad, it's wrong, it's gross, it's not healthy, it's not moral, it's whatever, just don't do it. That is why sex is so prevalent in this society and why people are so interested in it. It's constantly around but there is little accessible information about it, unless you go to the internet where you are more likely to find a porn website than a website about sex education. I mean, doesn't that speak volumes as well?

I do not think that men are any more obsessed with sex then women are I just think that is it more acceptable for a man to be sexual then it is for a woman. The US seems to think that a man has some sort of animal instincts when it comes to sexuality but women on the other hand are considers hoes, bitches, and freaks if they proclaim their sexuality. I think more and more women are starting to claim their sexuality and that it is slowly becomming more accpetable. A man thinks nothing is wrong if he is horny all the time but a woman thinks that something must be wrong with her if she is horny all the time. Also because of the stigmatism attached to female sexuality a lot of women lie about sex, where as men dont have that same stigma and fear of being ridiculed and called names because of their sexuality. You know like if a man is sitting around with the fellas talking about screwing three women in a week the other guys in the group are thinking damn he's good, but if that same discussion was being had by females the other females in that group would all be thinking damn she is a hoe and will be pregnant and not know who the father is or worse get some sort of disease. Hope this helped a little with you satiating psychological interest. I too am interested in psychology and in fact just recently minored in psychology.

YES!, They are and it is causing problems. It used to be dating did not happen till around college age. They would wait until they found that special someone, tie the knot, THEN have kids. You hardly hear about divorce years ago!
I know kids as young as 6 whom are interested in the opposite sex! I have seen 11 year olds walk out of Victoria's Secret ALONE WITH BAGS! Kids 11-15 are already interested and think it is cool to love the opposite sex and get all lovey and all that! I have even heard of 14 year olds have sex!
America it is time to wake up!!!
..... and yes!, There are zillions who have dealt with, committed, witnessed, been the victim of rape, sexual abuse and even threatened with! This is all sorts of men, tall, skinny, fat, short, regular, Asian, American, young, old, really old, failed school, in school, done with school, professors, doctors, scientists, celebrities, kids. It is horrible!

Times in the U.S. have changed considerably and not for the good. Yes, greed has always been around but in today's society, both Greed (Corruption of our judges/politicians/etc) and SEX have gotten way out of hand... It reminds me of the stories of the Bible just before the fall of nations and also of the Roman Empire which became mired down with sex and corruption... It has wrecked many institutions in the U.S. thus far and is getting worse
