What are the chances of society returning to trival living?

You hear about some people wanting to return to living in tribes.

Tribal living will only come back after a catastrophe of some kind forces it upon us. I mean, even folks who live remotely in small groups have all the modern conveniences of our world today. None of us are giving them up unless we have to.
