i always get confused how these words are you. am i right to say when you buy something you say bought and when you bring something it is brought. please help me thanks

You have it completely correct. In this case, the R makes a big difference. Just to remember, Bought is the past tense of buy. The present tense is buying and the future tense is will buy. Brought is the past tense of bring. The present is bringing and the future tense is will bring or bring. I hope this has helped you.
