my parents let my kid brother start the car once in while and he's 8. I wouldn't let a kid start a car unless they were at least 9 1/2 or 10. and somewhat mature, you know, not the type who always test the limits.

Oh my gosh, if I have been on your difficulty i might have had a heart attack. My scariest 2nd became into while my son became into 11 months previous. We have been staying in a hotel and that i became into taking a bathtub at the same time as Landon became into enjoying by the bathtub. He pulled up on the realm of the bathtub to look at me and fell and hit his face. He became into bleeding everywhere and the blood became into throughout his face so i could no longer tell what became into bleeding. I wrapped him in a towel and ran downstairs to the lobby crying help me. The hotel attendant spoke of as 911 and the ambulance got here. The EMT's appeared at him, smiled and mentioned he's high quality, he's a boy so that's no longer the final time it is going to take place. He had basically busted the interior his lip. His lip became into swollen something of the day, then he became into high quality, yet I nonetheless do no longer enable him stand interior the bathtub because of the fact now i be attentive to greater effective and that i do no longer intend to make yet another 911 call.

I did it when I was 5. All it takes is common sense, and the parents should teach their kids, I just watch as a kid and learned from that.

Actually it is illegal. Not until they have their license. You have to be sitting in your seat, door closed, and buckled in before you start a car. It's the law. If you are with them and supervise them then I wouldn't see a problem, but it is a law for every ones safety.
11-603.Starting parked vehicle
No person shall start a vehicle which is stopped, standing or parked unless and until such movement can be made with reasonable safety.

I would say NO. IF you allow them to do this, in an instant thy can shift it into gear. I understand it makes them feel good and like daddy, but for safety sake DON'T LET CHILDREN PLAY WITH YOUR CAR, START IT SHIFT IT OR ANYTHING ELSE.
My question is why are thy not in the seat with the seat belt on.
To allow a child to start a 3000 pound weapon is just asking for trouble.

absolutely not.. The car could jump out of gear, roll, or anything could happen and at 9 years old they aren't old enough to react to the situation. Also it is against the law, but i wouldn't let them for safety reasons.

Only with parental supervision. You don't want them to accidentally press on the brake and shift it into Drive.
