Lack of sleep or it's might be genetic. You can get concealer that is exactly one shade lighter than your natural skin tone to hide the bags then apply regular skin matching foundation over that.

There are many causes:
health - see a doctor to see if there is an underlying cause
genetics
lack of sleep, nutrition, and water

Once you have identified there is not underlying health condition and you decide you want to get rid of them this is what I would recommend:

First, to help in the long run you want to use the firming eye crème. It firms up the skin around the eye but it also lightens the color of the circles and provides luminescence. You see some change immediately, but it is the long-term benefits that are really impressive. To cover up the circles, you would want to use a concealer under your foundation, put on foundation, and the use the Facial Highlighting Pen. It has special light reflecting pigments that optically lift the shadowy area.

No one ever believes I had under eye pits. I don't even need the makeup cover up techniques anymore after using the firming eye crème either. For more info visit the website below and you can actually call me with any questions, my number is on it.

All the products I recommend are from Mary Kay.

Puffiness and dark circles under the eyes are the result of poor blood circulation in the area.
The dark circles are really caused by old blood that is not being flushed from the area and replaced (very much the same mechanism that causes a bruise)
Sleep, drugs, alcohol, and other factors can make them appear worse, but it all starts with blood circulation.
You need to get a good eye cream or gel that states its for dark circles. These products help increase the blood flow in the area and reduce these symptoms.

Anemia often causes dark bags under the eyes. Make sure you're getting enough iron!

It could be that the skin under the eye is getting thinner which means veins are more noticable. I have the same problem and thats what the doc. said my problem was. You can go to plastic surgeon and get some collagen shots to help build up the skin tissue. other than that just use concealer and makeup

Three words. You need sleep. Get at least 8 to 9 hours a day and sleep in on the weekends and you'll be fine. Also if you get headaches it's because lack of sleep also.

It may be a sinus infection. You should see your doctor. Do you have a frontal head ache? Do your cheekbones hurt? Are you dizzy, nauseated? Purple under the eyes isn't normal.

Its because of poor blood circulation towards your eyes. If the skin is deprived of blood, naturally it turns to purple colour because it is deprived of oxygen which actually comes from blood
