The correct grammar would be: I was curious as to whether the apple was good. Another way to say it would be: I was curious whether the apple was good. It is just a simple grammar mistake. However, there are other ways to say it. But, if you ever need grammar help, simply say it outloud and usually, it is what sounds best.
Hope this has helped you.

First one is incorrect.
Second and third are correct, depending on where you are. In England, you are generally curious as to whether something blah blah blah, in N. America you are generally curious whether blah blah blah.
I'm curious whether that helps......

Out of the three, the second is the most grammatically correct.

"I was curious as to whether the apple was good."

Normally, the sentence would be finished with "or not" .. or something to end the sentence structure properly.

I was curious about whether the apple was good.

WHETHER and if are similar in meaning. Only whether can be used before "to + verb". It also is the only one that can be used after a preposition.

Why don't you just say: "I wanted to know if the apple was good." "I wondered whether the apple was good."
