I lost my mucus plug, Im 35 wks prego and this is my 3rd child. I have never experienced this before. What could this mean? Could it mean that i will probably be going into labour soon? Or could this be normal? What exactly is a mucus plug and its purpose?

a mucus plug is a layer of mucus between the birth canal and the baby it protects the baby from infection when you lose your mucus plug it could mean you are going into labor soon but not always and it could be a week from now or a few hours its not a sure indicator of early labor.

The mucus plug creates a type of seal in the cervix to protect your baby. Once it is gone you could be on your way to labor, in the mean time don't take a bath, go swimming or have sex as these activities could expose your baby to infection. Congrats!

the best sugguestion is call your doctor... or wait till your next prenatal

if youve had children before
then this one might come before the duedate which is normal
if you have signs of labour u know its time to go but other wise its just thinning and maybe an early sign of labour to come in a week or two

Usually this is the first sign of going into labour, i only had it with my first child, labour could start anytime so be prepared, you are definately going early babe, good luck, and remember with this being your third things can happen pretty fast.

It's not really unusual here are some links. It does not necessarily mean you are in labor. Best to call the doctor and tell him/her
