Sound waves are longitudinal waves. They vibrate back and forth in the direction that they aremoving. Sound travels at about 1100 feet /sec.
Light waves are transverse waves, part of the electromagnetic spectrum. they vibrate up and down similar to water waves. They travel at 186,000 miles/sec.

Light and sound both travel in waves known as frequencies. The length and amplitude (Height) of the wave effects how the sound is heard or the light is seen.
