I've heard all the arguments about kids who have brain-dead parents, are physically unable to open a book, or live a gazillion miles from the nearest library - but if they are computer savvy enough to be HERE, why can't they at very least use an online ecyclopaedia and do their own homework?

I'm not recommending giving them wrong totally answers, that would defeat the whole purpose of Yahoo!answers, but, as they are probably too dim to notice, what about giving them answers that are 99% accurate with just one utterly hilarious error cunningly slipped in? Like: "During the Battle of Hastings in 1066, King Harold died after being struck in the head by a carefully aimed stale pork pie!" At least, that way, their teachers will get a good laugh!

I agree. I'm a 9th grader and it disgusts me that people do that. Or when they ask for the summary of a book or something. But maybe I'm just strange. I've never understood why kids cheat. because thats what it is. It is CHEATING! And I like your idea, because it will teach them a lesson about depending on other people to do your work. Its for their own good. If they need HELP its all good and well, but theres a fine line between help and cheating that so many have crossed.

This is genius.

I think there should be a separate "Yahoo! Homework" site, this would be so much better.

Some people actually come here for help with their degrees - how can we be expected to know about things to this level? I mean if we were all professors perhaps, but I know I'm not!

I usually answer homework questions by explaining how to arrive at the answer rather than just telling them the answer so at least they learn something.

Actually the Bayeux tapestry shows Harold being killed by a Norman knight as does the song "The Carmen de Hastingae Proelio". So by telling them he was shot in the eye you are technically giving them misinformation too!

Anyway people should just do their own homework - I did OK at school by just paying attention in class as I bet most people here did.

Hey! I'm a kid and I have never posted a homework question. So how dare you say that all kids today are lazy. And don't even think of saying I'm lazy because I'm on the computer because you are on it too.

It depends - a couple of times a really good question gets asked and catches my attention - so I answer it and then when I read it back I think 'Damn that question sounds like an essay title' - they've probably used my answer and passed it off as their own and that annoys me.

It's not like it's hard either, teachers must get perfect Wikipedia pastings these days.

Although I had to laugh recently - it was clear some kid had been told to write a biography on a renowned French person from history - this was translated into 'Name someone French and famous thats died?'

An assortment of answers included Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo Da Vinci and Beethoven NONE OF WHOM WERE ACTUALLY FRENCH!!!!!!!!! Genius

well I'm a student and I use Yahoo! Answers if I have a question I need opinions on or I need ideas. I'm not lazy and I don't ask anyone to do my homework for me.

So maybe not all kids on here are lazy (though I agree some definitely are), maybe they really need help so there's no need to be nasty about it.

And the whole point of Y! A is to ask questions, and if lazy kids ask for homework answers then just ignore them as most people will.

I agree. Teachers spoon feed this stuff to kids, anyway, for homework, so it's not any harder to actually find the answer than getting on the computer and asking a question.

I don't know why kids would come here for answers anyway. I have seen too many dead serious answers that are completely wrong. I don't bother with questions that obviously come from someone's homework.

I can cope with kids who don't have any books in the house, live miles from a public library and have never seen a dictionary, but I agree with you. If they can log into Yahoo! answers, then they should be able to get into a search facility and do their own research.
I got my GSE's (O and A level) without the Internet. I spent most Saturday afternoons in the Public Library reference section. Saturday night I went out and had fun.

hahha!! lol!
you're very funny :-)
I'm guilty of answering some of these questions with the correct answers, and you're right about the fact that they could easily google the answers. they are just being lazy. or they are so used to being in study groups or getting help from their friends or IM and chat rooms are so ingrained in them. Remember before the internet (GASP!) there used to be something called the library (OMG!) where people used to have to look something up in the encyclopedia (the WHAT??) and read stuff on paper (HUH????) :-) I'm going to give your technique a try. Watch me on my next answer! :-)

If they put an obvious question down,as in one copied from a text book, and expect an answer then thats a bit lazy. If they said the main gist of the question and then gave some ideas of their own about the answer and wanted peoples opinions on that, that'd be ok!
I love your idea though,it would be really funny! :)

I used it last week to help my son with his A'level H/W.
We did look up on the net, but found the answer a bit complicated. A guy answered our question on here and gave an example that enabled us to understand it better!
So, IMHO, I think this does lead to laziness, but at times, you are just asking for a simple explanation that You do get it 90% of the time!
some people on here are genuinely trying to help, and if you know your subject to a degree, you will fish out the p1ss takers, so to speak!
