OK I got an industrial cartilage piercing not too long ago. Yes it hurts but the pain is over after 2 seconds. Then all the blood flows to your ear and it gets hot and throbs for a few hours afterwords but is in no way near unbearable. If you get 2 piercings at once then getting the second piercing will hurt quite a bit more depending on your ear. By the next day you cant even feel it is there unless it is touched or bumbed and then you will really feel it. After 2 weeks that pain goes down considerably. But still you can pretty much never sleep on it until its healed (which will take 2-9 months) or it will hurt.
You have to clean it at least 2 times a day with antibacterial soap or you are taking a big risk of getting an infection. And you really do not want that. Another good thing to do is sea salt soaks which may help it heal faster. Also to keep it clean you can not touch it with your fingers since they have lots of bacteria on them and you cant talk on the phone on that side. Pretty much you have to make sure that nothing ever touches it. Getting a cartilage piercing is a big commitment.
Any more questions feel free to email me!

Piercings involve a sharp needle pushed completely through an area of flesh so yes, there is a level of pain. How much depends on you.
If you have a high tolerance for pain then it may not be that bad. Those people who say it's "excruciating" may not be able to handle pain that well. Everyone experiences pain differently so it's really hard to say without a doubt how much it is going to hurt.
This kind of pain only lasts a couple minutes anyways, if that. The actual piercing part is quick (count to 3 and it's done) and afterwards the area is sore.
As for cleaning, well, technically you don't have to keep cleaning it but you're putting your piercing at a higher risk for infection and it will take longer to heal.

No that's what I even have :) I even have 3 on each and every lobe, then one contained in the midsection between the cartilage and the lobe on my left ear, then a scaffolding piercing on my precise ear (even nonetheless that's at the instant contaminated atm :( ) and that i do no longer think of it seems too plenty in any respect. :)

it doesn't hurt that bad but yes you have to keep cleaning it just like any other hole or it will get infected. and make sure you know which ear your getting your cartilage on because when you get it done you can't sleep on that side because it gets highly irratated and it hurts when you touch it

Getting it done don't hurt at all its AFTERWARDS. Mine was painful for 3 months before it settled down, I couldn't even bear to touch it. Yes, like all piercings you have to clean it daily with special fluid.

I've had mine done twice. it hurts but i think stressing over it only makes it worse. It stops hurting after an hour so its worth it!!
