When you give her her bottle, put 1tbl of dark karo syrup in it(only once a day). It will help to soften her stool from the inside. I would do it about everyday until it is soft and then about every other. Also give her more carrots, as it tends to soften the bowl. Also check what foods she is getting, some tend to constipate a baby. Hope this helps.DO NOT freak out if her potty is runny, just give her less karo in her bottle.I had the same problem with my daughter.

She might be on a formula with too much iron in it. If she is on a soy formula it can also cause constipation. Since she is a preemie you really need to talk to her doctor before doing anything different.

I dont know about giving her suppositories but my babies doctor told me to give them a little kyro syrup and it acts kind of like a stool softener or a laxative but you dont give them very much. The other thing they had me try is taking a cotton swab with vaseline on it and just kind of go around the butt with it making the poo easier to come out.

Our daughter use to get constipated when we first started introducing baby food - so for example, she was having rice cereal 1x a day, and then a size 1 fruit or veggie....anyways, our ped recommended giving her oatmeal every now and then instead of the rice cereal, and that worked like a charm.
Good luck.

We used to use kiwifruit - mash it up, or just use the juice. Nutritious and has a natural laxative effect. I'd see the doctor about long-term help though.

Put a little epsom salt in her bath water. I used to open up a capsule of magnesium, dip in my finger and put that right on the baby's tongue. That worked a treat.

Peace!

It is really common with babies because there (excuse the wording) but hole is not yet big enough to pass the waste out easily. It will get easier the older and bigger the baby gets as there hole will get bigger as well.
