Researchers dont advise that you eat sushi during pregnancy seeing its raw and bacteria builds up in the fish seeing its uncooked. Yet some others will say it is safe - as long as u know the source of where your food is coming from. Salmon is fine during pregnancy.

Seafood such as shrimp and octopus are the same - your usually told to be careful with it and lastly the fish your told to avoid all together is Marlin, Shark and Swordfish.

These contain mercury. If you eat too much of these it can cause abnormalities of the fetus, prem birth or stillborns.

I've not heard of this, though you could try Google Scholar to see if there's any articles or journals on it. Doesn't sound like a very accurate study though... Were all mothers smoking? One group on just tobacco, the others on hash? That would obviously produce different results, since it narrows down the variables etc. I'd need to read the thing for myself before ranting about it, so really all I can say about it is that if anyone would like a healthy baby (lets hope that counts everyone) just don't take anything at all - loads of people have healthy babies, that's not to say they all smoked weed or chewed pennies or something

It is recommended to only eat cooked seafood - which includes some kinds of sushi rolls - during pregnancy. Due to contamination of fish by mercury, there are also recommended limits on the quantity of different types of fish a pregnant woman eats per week.

I don't know about the sushi, ( I have doubts ) but the salmon if well smoked should be just fine, safe, and nutritious. Just be sure it was fresh before smoking, and well smoked. Know your supplier. I eat it all the time, sometimes from questionable sources, and have never gotten sick.

Smoked salmon should not be a problem; I don't think I'd want to risk eating sushi if I were pregnant, though.
