Factor the equation to get
(x - 4)(2x + 1)=0
By the zero product property, x = 4 or x = -.5

the equation can be factored into (2x+1)(x-4) (if you didn't have a clue how to factor it, use the quadratic formula).
(2x+1)(x-4)=0
x=4, -1/2

first you have to break it up and factor it using foil

(2x+1) (x-4)

then you do them seperately

2x+1 = 0
-1 -1

2x= -1

x= -1/2

( x - 4 ) = 0

x= -4

so x = -1/2 or -4
