Controls would be things that stay the same, variables are things that change.

control refers to the thing that is never changing. in most experiments and/or research the control is something like time. It is always on the X axis of a graph (in MS excel, you want to plug it into the first column). The variable refers to the condition that you are changing. For example, if your control was the time, and the title of your experiment was time vs. wind speed, then your variable would be wind speed. This always goes on the Y axis and is the second column in MS excel.

a variable is something that is different.

for example: in a controlled study there can only be 1 variable. I just learned about this!!!!!!!!!!
