Years ago, I was fired simply for saying that I was thinking about leaving the company.

I think it was the best thing that could have happened. I really did not like what I was doing and have a much job now

I maybe harder to fire you depending on where you live.

They might, but if they value you at all, they would be better to talk to you about it rationally and find out if there is anything they can do to persuade you to stay.

In the UK, if you've worked for them for at least a year, if they fire you without a good reason, you may have a claim for unfair dismissal in the Employment Tribunal. If you were going on interviews during company time and lying about it, e.g. saying you were at the doctor's, then that may be gross misconduct and they may be able to fire you.

Depends on the employer and the state law. If you are an at will employee they don't need a reason to fire you. I've been fired once when I gave my two week notice, lol.

of course. but why would you care? you dont like your job, which is why you're looking for a new job anway. besides, you can get unemployment if you get fired (unlike when you quit) , which would pay you half your normal salary and the time to look for a new job. so in my opinion, don't worry and happy job hunting.

Employers sometimes do fire you, but they really aren't allowed. they need a reason to fire you, and exploring your options doesn't qualify as one.

Not as long as you go on interviews during your lunchtime.
