I'm an American and lived in Russia for 6 months. I am absolutely amazed at the strength and amazing fortitude of the Russian people. They are very intellegent, hard working and patient in the face of adversity. I think the family unit there is stronger than in America.
As a nation, however, I was so sorry to see such disarray and lack of organization. Pot holes in streets, decrepit buildings and almost anything that was the government's responsibility to take care of was falling apart. I am sorry that the salaries of Russian people are so small that it drives them to the black market. I understand that it was just the necessity of survival but I was disappointed in that.
As a whole, Russian women are beautiful and the men are handsome and strong. Everyone was incredibly patient with me and my lack of ability to speak much Russian...much more patient than Americans are of people who can't speak English. I think Russians have a much more global view of the world than Americans and are more patient and understanding of the differences.
I admire the Russian people and am amazed at your ability for hard work under difficult situations. Russian people have certainly made a big impression on me.

I think relations between Americans and Russians have improved greatly in recent years, although their may be some who still have suspicions, going back to the Cold War era.

I like the Russian people. I have sold beef to the Russian market though and was not thrilled with the results.I don't blame the People however, I do blame their poor economy though.

To me I appreciate ALL ethnicities and cultures. To best anwer your question I would have to say the first impression I had was how they dominate CHESS, their arts in DANCE and MUSIC are quite profound as well. BUT I've heard both AMERICANS AND EUROPEANS say derogratory moronic things about Russians. Unfortunately much more than I can take. I hope that anwers your question . = )

I've enjoyed the Russians I have met. I would say they were very straight forward, open, and more politically savvy than the average American. The speak their minds, that's for sure.
