I would take them back to the store.
Anyway the chance is 12/1000. Which can be simplified by dividing it by the highest common denominator (4) to result in 3/250. As a percentile fraction it would be 1.2% as 1000/100 = 10 and 12/10 = 1.2

Use "faulty / total" to find the fraction:
12 / 1000 --- Divide the numerator and denominator by 2
6 / 500 --- Again, divide both by 2...
3 / 250--- This is the answer, in simplest form...

3/250 sounds cool, but if my first 50 nails are good, then my odds become worse, If im lucky, the first 12 are bad!!! but then again if i buy 1000 nails and the first 12 are bad, I might think theyre all bad, therefore, what would be the utility of such a question? an example?
in the pub:
My mate: "hey! Nick! I bought 1000 nails today, and 12 were faulty!"
Me: " Yeah, whatever... I think it's your round, asshole!!!"
