1- Terrorism posed a threat in the past, there has not been any terrorist attacks in a long time, but some people fear its recurrence and avoid travelling to countries in the middle east in general. It is a problem because it has decreased the number of tourists.
2- Lack of 3&4 star hotels - most of the hotels are 5 stars! leaving a big segment of economic or affordable segment neglected
3- Beggars & hagglers - many toursits complain about having to deal with beggars in the tourist areas such as the pyramids. This has caused some negative perceptions and did cut on those willing to visit again in the future as well as spread negative word of mouth
4- Lack of planning from the government side - led for example to an over supply of nile cruises between luxor and aswan causing most to operate at below break even point
5- Regional instability - wars in other parts of the middle east such as Lebanon cause fear in tourist's minds, they see the middle east as one area and all is dangerous
6- The streets - crowded, disorganized and no place for crossing, I heard this as one of the main complaints in a seminar by the minister of toursim
There are of course other minor reasons, but the above pose as the most important ones that have a real effect.

I dont agree with people saying that terrorism is the most important problem and that one who said about jews. Whats wrong with u people? Where is that terrorism and what do jews want to do to harm tourism? Eh elhabal da? How many jews r living in Egypt asasan? But at the same time i wont deny that Egypt had witnessed many terroristic attack but that could happen in any country at any time. At the same time am sure there r some problems facing the tourists in Egypt. Some of them r that the streets r very crowded and unclean, the polluted air is one of the most important things they dont like about Egypt.
Another thing they dont like about Egypt is the silliness (el3'atata) of the people seeling things in touristic places like the pyramids, khan elkhalikli and so.
Yesterday i was with one of my friends from Germany and he is studying in Egypt, we were in the underground metro station and suddenly we found someone came to us, said hi, introduced himself as a student studying tour guiding then he asked him if he went to the pyramids and my friend said no he didnt, this silly boy then insisted that he have to c the pyramids and he must show him the pyramids and everywhere else he didnt c. we said thanks (and i was about to kill him) What is that? What r people doing? My friend was very amazed and he told me that this isnt the first time he meets such people.
Thats All!

I visited Egypt several years ago, that is before 911. The tours to the Pyramids, the Cairo Museum and the Sphinx's were educational , and
a once in a life time opportunity..The buses were packed with Tourists. I had no fear of terrorists, because the world was fairly at Peace at this time.
But several days after we returned home, we heard the news
that a bus filled with tourists was blown up in front of the Museum.
I felt sorry for the victims and their families, but thankful to God for our safe departure.
I would advise person who intend to travel there, to be VERY careful.

I'm not Egyptian, I'm Greek, but I've been to Egypt countless times as I love the country and the people. As a Greek I have also faced unfounded negativity based on silly stereotypes. The negative and racist comments are from narrow minded persons who cannot appreciate and respect the individuality and uniqueness of another country. I'm sad for them, it's their loss. Egypt is wonderful!

Cairo is one of the world's good megacities. As wonderful since it is mad, and as full of old finery since it is half dilapidated, Cairo is often a city that travellers love and hate in equivalent steps so find out by which group you will be with assistance from this place hotelbye . In Cairo you will find, beyond the present day hubbub, a history that spans centuries. Filled with vigour, Cairo is where you actually get a feel for Egyptian road life and no visit to Egypt is complete with out a stay in the city Arabs call Umm al-Dunya (The Mother of the World). The absolutely incredible collection of antiquities shown in Cairo's Egyptian Museum helps it be among the world's good museums and positively a place for everybody's to visit.
