Are bottoms more effeminate? Are there many gay people who would never be considered gay by people unless they told them?

I would say that most "straight-acting" gays/lesbians are the norm. however, I would say, from personal experience, that they are not "acting" straight, just simply being themselves. the effeminate gay male, or the butch lesbian are real, however, they are the minority. and those are the extremes that bigots base their stereotypes on and assume that we are all like. we are all different, just like straight people are. we are of all different incomes, and upbringings. different religions and cultures. there's just no "one" way that all gay men or lesbians act.

While bottoms can be more effeminate, the term "straight acting" is actually offensive because it implies that some gays are "acting" and that they're trying to emulate how straights seem to behave, which isn't accurate. They are just being themselves, which, it turns out, is similar to how straights are. The differences are less pronounced then some might think. A person is born gay or straight, regardless of when they figure it out. "Bottoms" often figure it out sooner than "tops." And yes, there are many gays, especially what are sometimes called "stealth lesbians" that no one would think are gay. At the end of the day, people shouldn't play guessing games with the sexuality of others. Live and let live!

I would say they are the majority but by straight acting I mean mostly straight acting. We all tend to be a little different.

There is such a thing as Gaydar though mine does not work very well. I am always wondering and I never ask because thats rude and personal plus I taken.

Bottoms more effeminate? A lot of the times yes. But not always. Not a helpful answer I know but it's hard to put large groups of people in one box.

I despise the phrase straight acting as I think it is meaningless.

How would one act straight? Rape a woman? Start a war? Bash a gay person?

If one means to act in a stereotypically masculine way why not say that? ...or use slang like "butch"?

Every time I see straight acting I am reminded of the great old song with the lyric "How straight do they look when they're down on their knees?"

Actually they would be the Majority, effeminate gay men are in the minority. "Bottoms" aren't any more noticeable than any other subset of Homosexuals.

People are all unique, you can't categorise them like library books. Not only that, but someone you view as macho, might be viewed as effeminate by someone else. It's all relative. Does it really matter? Could it be that you are wondering what box people put you in? I know I worry about that stuff (and acknowledge that it's a bit silly). Don't focus on labels, they do a lot of damage to our self-esteem.

There are a lot of gay people that act straight in fear of how they will be treated when they are "out"
There's a lot of people who are gay, that don't have to act straight. I have more of less been myself for the past few years i've known that i was gay, and when I finally let people know, they wouldn't believe me.

short answer, i dont think you can tell most homosexuals are gay... does that answer your question?

Your question is very strange. But most studies show about 10% of the population of any random group is gay. Is that what you were looking for?

Bottoms aren't always effeminate, and tops aren't always butch.
