Most of the cars in the movies had very little in the way of engine mods - they were just Hollywood props done up to look good enough on camera. Almost none of them were close to as fast as the owners claimed in the dialog. Often even the appearance mods took a few short cuts where the cameras weren't pointed - they had neon lights held in place with duct tape and zip ties, a clear plastic hood that would melt if you drive the car hard, those sorts of glitches that you can hide on screen but would be pretty bad in real life.
Most of the customizing on the cars was limited to paint and graphics, some often halfway done interior mods, lots of gauges and neons, sometimes lowering the cars with lowering springs, different wheel and tire packages, and what's known as body kits. These replace the bumpers and add side skirts to the cars to give them a markedly different appearance.
For actual car mods, take what the dialog in the movie had with a grain of salt. 10 second imports exist, but the screenwriters often didn't follow the technical advisor... and some of the racing techniques shown are losing strategies, especially the racers in the first movie waiting to hit the nitrous until after they're falling behind (the correct time to engage the nitrous in a drag race is as soon as the car is moving fast enough that it won't make the tires spin).
Probably the best place to start for learning about engine performance parts would be with a book - one of the most readable ones on turbos, even if it's a bit excessively opinionated, would be Corky Bell's Maximum Boost.

OK bro um not to criticize but if your going to go out and bye "a fast and furious car" maybe you should do a little...no alot of homework before you get yourself in way over your head, tuner cars are expensive and if you know nothing about them (which is kinda obvious) but you want to "look", go to an import shop in your area with a hand full of money and a few pics of what your looking for and you'll get you fast and furious car.

I know the first guy to make his muffler sound like that (a little add on in the tail pipe) and the guy who created all those cars for the movie pained my husbands 69 bird, but I don't know why you would want your car to sound like an amplified cricket.
