I don't have depression, but i have ADD. I heard anti-depressants could work for ADD. The reason why i want to choose an anti-depressant over a stimulant is because i have trouble sleeping at night. I only take the stimulant in the morning, once every day, as opposed to taking it 3 times a day. It still keeps me up far into the night until the morning. Is it safe to take an anti-depressant if one does not have depression? Did anybody have any success with enhancing concentration while taking anti-depressants?

First off, u need to talk to your doctor. If u do not have one then go to web MD and u can ask your questions there. AI would not take an anti depressant without finding out first. If you are having trouble sleeping though then try this. Your body naturally produces melatonin to help you sleep at night. You can get it in pill form and it won't harm u, and it won't interact with other meds, but be sure to tell the doc. just so they know. You can get it at health food stores, walmart, anywhere that has a pharmacy basically. It's over the counter and not very expensive. It's non habit forming. Good luck.

You should consult your doctor. I used to be depressed all the time years ago when my husband died and it was a tough time for my sons and I. After seeing a shrink for a little while to get through the hardest part I started exercising. Exercising is the best medicine for me. It was hard to get started but once I got into a routine, I made myself get through it. I even asked for help from my friends to call me and wake me up in the morning so I would get up and do my warmups. My opinion is to talk to your doctor before taking any pills and most of all talk to someone about your concern. Life isn't meant to be difficult. There are so many people I'm sure who care about you and would be happy to help as well even if you think they don't.

ADD,ADHD & manic depression are to completley different conditions! The antideprssants along with the stimulant you are taking for your ADD,(Aderall, etc.),are a bad combination of prescriptions!I suggest continuing your ADD meds, and a non altering,OTC mild sleep aid to help you sleep at night! Anti-depressants alter the chemical imbalance in a persons brain, and they take weeks before you feel the affects of them aiding the depression! They are NOT a sleep aid!Best of luck!

You need to see a Physician regarding your particular mode of treatment for your ADD. To generally answer your question, though, at times the contents of an anti-depressant drug can be effective for other problems than depression. Again, though, you really do need to get to a Physician to determine the best course of action.

Share all this info with your doctor. I believe there is an antidepressant that is also used to treat ADHD. The doctor would know best. If you don't have a doctor that listens to you sharing the things you think are important, then find one.

Oh, please don't seek medical advice on here. If you are just asking for personal experiences, OK - but never take anything on Answers as accurate medical advice. That can/should only come from a medical professional after an exam or evaluation.
