I'm too old, but I've been trying to do it as a civilian for 5 years now...let me behind a desk and free up someone else. And I have a son eligible (20) a son who is ineligible (heart defect and pacemaker so there is no way they would take him...we've already discussed it). I have a daughter that is 16 and will be old enough soon. I have friends whose children have enlisted and are currently serving, one has already been to Afghanistance twice.
Israel has had mandatory service for decades and it has worked well for them. EVERYONE serves and they are proud to and frankly, I have a ton of respect for them...and you notice that it doesn't pay to mess with Israel.
Velvet, I'd be more than happy to escort your fanny to Canada and even happier if you promise not to return. In fact, going now is a great idea.

It's kind of an odd question, because if there was a draft one would have no choice. But of course I would serve, as would everyone else. In fact, that's one of the problems with this war: if there was a draft, everyone would see the "costs" of war -- in terms of human lives -- firsthand. Maybe then people would become more engaged and demand change. As it stands now, 60% of the population doesn't like the war, but only 10% of the population (or some similar minority) ever sees any of the costs of war, because only their sons/daughters/fathers/sisters are out fighting. If we're serious about war, everyone should pay for it, with dollars and with lives. If not everyone is willing to do so, then we're not serious and we shouldn't be at war at all.

The question is mute because Congress and the President would never institute a draft without any exemptions because their kids would have to go.

Prior service war vet so I would be way down on the list. But if it got to the point that I might be drafted, I would already be serving. Heh, they actually turned me away because of my age and prior service after 9/11, I tried to join back.

Gladly. I don't agree with the reason why we are at war, but I would still support the troops that are already over there. Some on their third and fourth term. These soldiers really deserve the chance to come home, while fresh soldiers should be deploy.

Yes, I would serve if drafted. but since I already served thirteen years, I doubt if they would ask . If they did, I would have my uniforms ready to go.
I think Wrangle is one of the few Dems with his head screwed on straight. I applaude him for his plans to institute a draft, or required service of some type. It's about time.

At 68, I think I will be deferred. Plus, I do not like the idea of a draft to begin with. Those who would pass such a law are those who would not be included under it. Irony!!

I did and if I was a few years younger I would again. When I served there was a draft and I volunteered.

I don't think there has ever been a draft like that. And I don't think there will be much of a choice. And I don't think anyone would want to shirk their duty when we lost an entire city to CHINA. See link, things have not changed since August.
