I am 23 years old. I have had problems with my period since I was 9. When I was 11, I was told that I had excessive bleeding and was put on birth control. I stopped taking birth control and since then my periods have been getting worse. I get diarreah, back pains, cold sweats, vomiting, cramps so bad I can barely walk, and I am constantly tired. There have been times where I have almost passed out. When I bring this up to my doctor, he just says I need to go back on birth control. What is wrong with me? I would like to know the problem before I try and treat it. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Oh, honestly, I get so sick when I hear about doctors disregarding severe menstrual pain with "You need to go on birth control."

Birth control helps a LOT of women, and I wouldn't necessarily give up on it (unless you are trying to get pregnant, obviously) but it is not a universal cure for what ails you. It conceals your symptoms... it does not treat the underlying issue.

Unless you have a diagnosis for why your periods are so difficult (Endometriosis, PID, Ovarian Cysts, Fibroids... lots of options, and it's not possible to diagnose over the web) then your doctor should not be just dismissing your problems with "birth control" as if that is the only cure. What you need to do is to see a new physician who respects you.

go to another doctor for second opinion. also when you stopped taking birth control (pills or other hormonal birth control methods) you may have side effects because of the change in the levels of the hormones present in your body.

I donno how long you've been off bc, but maybe give your body a while to re adjust..... also..the pregnant thing sounded kinda silly at first, but that actually helps many women....but it's a 50/50 thing...... Sorry about your pain sweetheart.... just know you're not the only one!
