as you know 2+3+4 = 4+3+2 = 3+4+2 so
6n + 2 + 4n = 6n + 4n + 2
we don't know (yet) what "n" is but we know for sure that
6n + 4n = 10n (imagine "n" means apple: if I give you 6 apples and after that I give you 4 apples in the end you get 10 apples) so we have
6n+2+4n=10n+2=102
now if 6=6 then 6-2=6-2 I mean you can always subtract the same amount on both side of the equal
here we have 10n+2. This "+2" is in the the way so I subtract 2 on both sides of the equal:
10n+2-2=102-2
which means
10n=100
now I need "n" instead of 10n
but if 6=6 then 6/3=6/3 (you can always divide on both side of the equal by the same number (reminder: never divide by zero)
so to convert "10n" into "n" I divide by 10
10n/10=100/10
which means the final solution
n=10

6n + 2 + 4n = 102
Add the n's together
(6n + 4n) + 2 = 102
10n + 2 = 102
Subtract 2 from both sides
10n = 100
Now divide both sides by 10
n = 10

6n + 2 + 4n = 102 --- Combine like terms (add 6n and 4n together)...
10n + 2 = 102
10n + 2 - 2 = 102 - 2 --- Subtract 2 from both sides...
10n = 100
(10n) / 10 = 100 / 10 --- Divide both sides by 10...
n = 10
