Practice makes perfect. You don't need to go to classes outside school. Work hard at art lessons in school; listen to what your teacher says. Borrow books from your local library and if you can, buy magazines and study the designs in there.
Also work hard at needlework classes at school. Don't be impatient with yourself. If you really want to do this, persevere and keep trying the little tasks, like sewing on buttons, hemming skirts, putting in zips, etc, over and over until you are really good at them. Very few people do anything very well at the first attempt and you are likely to be no exception.
If you really want to be a fashion designer I have no doubt you can do it if you really put your mind to it and give it plenty of good old-fashioned hard work. But I have a few requests for the future, when you are a successful fashion designer: no more divided skirts, handkerchief hems, flares, awful ponchos OK?! Give us glamour instead of grunge! Thanks!

well, i am 16 and i also am an aspiring fashion designer. When i was 11 i wasn't good at drawing and didn't even know how to sew. I first started learning all the techniques at the Academy of Art University. They had a high school program where students can come to San Francisco and study fashion at the college. It taught me so much!
Don't worry at all, it all comes with time. You are lucky to have a passion for something at such a young age. You will get better with time. Maybe when you get older you can do the same fashion program i did, just start saving your money now!
There is a book that teaches you how to do fashion sketches, its called 9 heads. A fashion professor mentioned it to me. Don't give up, you have an awesome dream!

Nidhi.. you are only 11, so stop stressing about this. Its too soon to say "I'm not good" at drawing - take your time and practice. Keep a sketch pad nearby and draw whenever you have a chance. Think of your favorite singer - do you think they had the voice they do now at 11? Also, I've seen some designer sketches - they look nothing like the finished product! Designers sketch to get their ideas out.. but lots of time what they sketch is very abstract - lines and splashes of color - with notes on the side regarding the details they want to put in. Also, if your school offers any art or home-ec classes, take them. I know my school didn't have home-ec till 7th grade (when I turned 12).

just make sure and take a lot of art classes in school, and high school and college. and you can develope your talent over time, you are still very young, and most fashion designers dont start until they are 25. Mary kate and ashley olsen just got lucky young because they are incredibly rich... and with endless money ANYONE good or bad could start a clothing line. Just remember life is LONG. and you can be whatever you want to be, but you MUST work for it, nothing comes free or easy in life.. but good luck..i really do hope you can succeed with whatever it is you dream.

Been there, done that.
To start with, ask yourself why you want to do that. Is it really love of 'clothes' or the whole glamour around the job? Because the reality is that even with tons of talents, it is a miserable life for almost 90% of the people doing it.
That said, you can learn to draw. Without a prof it's harder but the key is practice. The more you draw, the better you become and better becomes your style. Also, check for books. Same applies to sewing.

You might struggle unless you start attending drawing classes to help you improve. You would normally need art related qualifications to get into design school.
