America is the land of free spirit and entrepreneurship. This is a place where you can do anything if you set your mind to. Nothing is impossible; as they say, the opportunities are only limited only by your imagination! This is a land where companies like Microsoft can be built from a garage by a school dropout. Think Bill Gates, the richest man on the planet. This is the environment where castles can be made out of nowhere. Think Donald Trump who came from the cold as an immigrant and built up a whole new empire!

"I will go to America even if I have to ride the back of a snail!"

Here in the USA, a foreigner has a very good chance to become whatever he or she wants to be.

You can be Christian of any variety without the government taxing you, you can be Jewish and live free of fear, you can even be Muslim and you can live like anybody else in the USA.

You can start businesses and become very successful and create jobs for everybody.

As long as you come to the USA LEGALLY and learn English and accept American culture and respect the country you are adopting as your own, you will do fine.

Come willing to work for what you want and please don't try and get welfare or subsidies.

You'll do fine if you work your way toward citizenship.

One of the reasons "everyone wants to go to America" is because of the way it is portrayed in movies. In most movies, as well as on television series, and soap opera's, americans are shown living this glitzy, rich life, with really nice homes, late model cars, all the neat toys (boats, snowmobiles, ski's, computers, desginer clothing, etc.) and eating out in fine restuarants. Many immigrants, esp. those from non-industrialized nations, expect that within months of arriving in America, they too will be living this kind of luxurious lifestyle.
Unfortunately, the truth is, that many Americans live on a subsistence level. Few live the lifestyles portrayed in movies, and many who do, are living above their means, deep in debt.

Another reason is, again, especially for people from countries that are battle zones, or are very poor, is that the standard of living and quality of life they can expect in America is better than what they currently are experiencing.

I'm English. We have free rights too. In fact, I'm pretty sure your current President stole the first election!!!! How free is that exactly? Never been to America and really don't want to but they are special for a few reasons:

They are the richest country in the world and therefore the world's only true super power at the moment. Consequently, they go around the world invading people they don't like (with my country's stupid, weak PM as their lapdog). So they are special yes, but not in a good way.

i have no idea why everyone likes america. it's a very slow country. not very high tech. i would very much like to go to japan. technology is great there.

also the person that said: we have chinese food.
you should go to china if you really want chinese food. do you call the chinese food in america chinese food. more like american-chinese food. i am chinese. so i find it really offensive. a lot of americans think that the chinese food that they eat is chinese food. but i think that they don't even know what real chinese food taste like. i don't mean to be rude to all you americans out there , i am an american citizen too, but i am a really honest person and say what i feel deep down. also, i think that president bush is a bad president. don't know what he's doing. always likes to go to war. boo!
