The true way to stop terrorism. tell me what you think?

I am a progressive liberal, so I am more intelligent then your average american. I have created a plan to stop terrorists. The terrorists believe that if they suicide bomb us, the will get 72 virgins in heaven. So... why don't we give them 72 virgins while they are alive. We can send our American daughters over to them when they are of age, and then the terrorists will send them back when they are done with them, in exchange for new ones. It is so simple. It is unfortunate for our daughters but I think we can all agree that it is better to force our children into slavery then risk getting hurt, or even worse, infringing on the rights of terrorists.

Such a plan is folly, although I do appreciate your satire. I believe that the best ways to reduce the threat of terrorism are as such: take a hard look at American foreign policy, and modify it to be more just. Israel has a right to exist, but some of their methods are excessive and not a little unjust. Calling Ariel Sharon "a man of peace," was a serious faux pas for Bush. Sharon himself would not view that as a compliment, and he certainly does not want to be seen as a man of peace. In short, concerning Israel, the United States should take a slightly more unbiased approach.

Also, America should realise that democracy will not work everywhere, and it certainly won't work in Iraq. I believe in leaving the denizens of the Middle East to whatever forms of government please them. America should also look at what she is doing that is so offensive to those people, and consider, "Is this really in our best interest to do this?"

You can't fight a "War on Terror" with conventional military force. The United States military is the best fighting force in the world, bar none. No one can stand openly against the US military. However, the terrorists know that, and thus they don't fight openly. The way one combats terrorism is with police work, accurate CIA intelligence, and FBI activity. Torturing suspected terrorists accomplishes nothing, for if you beat a man enough, he will tell you whatever you want to hear. Rambling on about "Islamic Terrorism" as some politicians are fond of doing accomplishes nothing: not every terrorist is a Muslim. Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph were certainly not Muslims.

The final component is to understand the people of the Middle East, which is something the US government has failed to do for some time. They are very different from the Russians with whom the Cold Warriors of past administrations are accustomed to dealing. Whereas religion is not a major factor in Russia, in many of the nations of the Near East, it is a way of life and an end in itself. America should acknowledge this, and tread carefully around those people who are swift to anger at the imam's call.

Overall, here are my solutions: rethink foreign policy, understand the people of the Middle East and their values, and transfer the responsibility of combating the terrorist threat from the Army to law enforcement. The terrorist threat is not as great as some people like to think: if the terrorists were hellbent on inflicting massive casualties on the American people, they could do so quite easily. I can think of at least five different nightmare scenarios against which there is no defense whatsoever. What they want is to instill fear, and Americans cannot let them do so.
