There seems to be a huge gap between fans of anime, fans of Disney, etc. I never did understand any of it. I like what I like, and I know that without Disney there would be no anime or a lot of other stuff. Sometimes really exaggerated anime style annoys me, and a lot of it is low budget and annoying. Then again, so is a lot of typical American Saturday morning cartoons. I personally am a fan of animation in general, and my dislike of Disney has more to do with the horrible treament of workers in the past (Walt himself could be quite nasty) and their business methods. Many of my favorite movies are animated, some by Japanese companies like Studio Ghibli, some by Pixar, Disney, Warner bros. and the like. What I never understood was why some people seemed to take one side or another, loving anime and hating disney or vice versa.

Yes, no disney, no anime. After arround WW2 if I remember closely, there had been a huge demand for animation in Japan. So therefore, the budget can't be helped and more work with the art rather than the actual animation. Old school Disney fans don't like anime because of the lack of animation that simply put. In anime, realistic proportion can be taken, but the face can still be exagerated. That's another factor that sets people off. Somewhere there could be a culture issue, and since the two cultures are very different, the dubbers may not make a good English adaption. A stereotype of anime is "Sex/Naked ladies! Gore! Robots! Flying arms!". Most people don't look at what its about and deemed it as distasteful (keyword: Culture difference).

Why people like anime, but hate western animation? Simple. It's either A) they like detailed art, B) the maturity/emotional or C)"because the show is in their favorite genre".Anime won in terms of diverstiy, hands down. The Japanese are not afraid to express themes of trauma and lonliness to children, so maturity might be another case. Most anime fans deem Western animation as childish, plotless (if it's a series), if its an action shows, its about super heroes and most of all, childish. True, we have Family guy and Simpsons, but neither is everybody lookin for sattire either.

I watch and read anime alot, but I still find western animation appealing :p

Have you ever seen an American cartoon that actually had an ending instead of just going off the air (cancelled)? Not many, if you ask me. Even if an anime was aired in America, if it's not popular, the show would get cancelled.

>_> .....DON'T YOU HATE THAT?!?!

I'm an anime fan, but there is a great amount of American cartoons that I enjoyed on TV. X-Men Evolution, Static Shock, the original Batman series, Batman Beyond, but unless the series end is put on DVD, then that's it. >_>
Family Guy was lucky enough to get back on air because of CN. (but that's not a kiddy cartoon. =P)

I like Disney movies, and always will.

And psst...don't worry. there are some people that are just weird when it comes to anime. It's the equivalent to high school: you have the cheerleaders, the jocks, the nerds, the stuck up snobs, and the regular people.

And to prove it to you, take a look at this site.

http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com

It lists all the "weird" anime fans and other stuff not relating to anime. There are some that are just weird. Search "Wapanese," and you'll see what I'm talking about.

For the most part, local channel cartoons are probably not as popular as cartoons on cable (except WB, probably).

And what the person above was saying is right. >_> America is very uptight when it comes to content on television, compared to Japan.

I <3 Disney! Well... the old stuff. Like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, you know the pre-CG stuff. The rest of it pales in comparison.

I also LOVE anime! Honestly, I'm who I am because of it. I'd probably be some Poms squad chippy bimbo (no offense! <3) if I hadn't started to like it. ^^ Wh00t! Anime!
