John Murtha may be many unsavory things but he's hardly a thug. Exaggerations and nasty labels distract from a serious discussion of his actual misdeeds, and the danger he poses to the safety of our troops.
And don't give me that crap about 'he served honorably so you can't criticize him' - both Benedict Arnold and Duke Cunningham served honorably before turning rotten.
