It's definitely somewhere around 10-15 miles away from Joburg. On the way there you may as well stop at Gold Reef City too!

Soweto is a suburb of Johannesburg and is about 15 km from Johannesburg city centre.

Like Zilber said Soweto is a part of Johannesburg. It is not that far, about 20km. According to what I've heard it is actualy bigger than Johannesburg. Also if you are flying there via JHB International (OR Thambo) then you are not actually flying to Johannesburg because JHB Int is in Kempton Park and not in JHB itself.
