It was a celebration of no longer having to live in a classed society that had an authoritarian aristocracy and royalty and the freedom to practice religion as they wanted.
It was not anything against the Native Americans, as they participated in the feasts. Unfortunately, they were lactose intolerant because they didn't have cows or drink milk. When they drank the milk and ate cheeses, they developed intestinal gas and thought the Pilgrims had poisoned them. A bit of misunderstanding and ignorance by both sides.

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in the US and Canada. It was started after the first Pilgrims landed and colonized North America in Plymouth in 1621.
It began as a harvest festival.
Mostly it's a day of being thankful for all the things we have and the bounty of the harvest. It's now tradition.
The reasons for the holiday are different in Canada and the US.
They both celebrate the harvest.
But the US began the holiday as a way to be thankful for rain after a long droubt.
In Canada it began as a way to be thankful for surviving a long journey.
Now, it's just celebrated as a way to be thankful for the harvest.

Yes, it is a time of eating a feast and watching American football on tv. Strangely, the true story goes to the fact that the Pilgrim Fathers were starving, because of the severe weather, and failled crops (they had planted European crops which didn't flourish in the US), and that the local Native Americans (Red Indians) took pity on them, and brought them food. They were repaid for this kindness, by being slaughtered, forced off their land and placed in concentration camps (called Reserves). Every year, the non-Native Americans give 'Thanks' for this food given out of charity and of moral-decency by the Indians. The Native Americans probably have a different word for this.

the celebration which the European " invaders " have in order to celebrate THE PEOPLE saving them from starving to death so later they could exploit and steal their land, food supplies and all other property. I'd better stop here.
