I asked a question awhile ago about why America is obsessed with Heroism.
A lot of you said it wasn't JUST America, and I agree.
I need to know what you think of NON American Heroism.
Heroism in today's popular culture in places other than America. Some people considered leaders in places like Europe, Italy, Russia, Germany, anywhere. Why are they leaders, what makes them that? What do you define as a Hero? Which qualifications do they possess? Are they ALL flawed?
I know one person considered a "hero" in Germany was Hitler in his time. Does anyone know where I can find info on that?
Anyother heroes in other countries?
What's everyone's opinions?
I'm writing a paper about it, any links or ideas would be appreciated!

To me a hero is someone who goes well above and beyond the call of duty or commits a brave act with no thought of personal injury or sacrifice.

My hero (heroin) is Laura Secord, she provided invaluable information during the war of 1812 that stopped an American invasion in Canada, she traveled for days on foot to bring this information to soldiers who in conjunction with Native Indians defeated the Americans.

There are many examples of heroes from other countries that are well-known here. Every culture has its men (and women) they consider heroes. I define a hero as someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty, and has done something that not only benefits his or her fellow human beings, but is also an inspiration to all people of virtue. The easiest place to find heroes is in wartime.

Examples of heroes from other countries: Vassily Zaitsev and Yakov Fedotovich Pavlov from the USSR (both heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad) and Oskar Schindler from Germany, just to name a few. You will find many heroes in the World War II era, particularly among the soldiers and those who defied the Nazi regimes in their countries.

A good place to look for information is www.wikipedia.org, and in any historical text.
