I think that people need a balance of both, my father told me a true story of a dishwasher who did OK in school, but now he's richer than the A+ students who did better than him in school. He now owns 15 Marriott Hotels across North America. In fact, if people are academically some what educated and street educated It means they have a higher chance of awareness and success. I know of people who did so well and basically got 97% averages in School and in higher education but they can't find a job or are in severe debt. There are many things that can't be taught in a textbook.

Street Smarts. If you can get the job.
Book smarts will give you the skills and training to do well in an entry-level position, but it will be those people skills that you will need to move up.
If you are very entrepreneurial, then skip college and go carve out your niche. Otherwise, college is the best idea. Not only will you get the chance to learn job skills, but you can practice people skills in an environment where mistakes won't be so costly.

Today in this world, you actually need both! You need book smarts to make a good living, and to get your degree, and then you need to deal with all kinds of different people out there, so you also need street smarts to protect yourself from people that are not so honest or nice.

I think it depends on what you mean by "further in life". Do you mean money? Do you mean popularity? Do you mean family? Respect from other people? If, for example, further in life means becoming a brilliant scientist, then I'd go for "book smarts". If, on the other hand, further in life means becoming a popular actor/actress, I'd go with street smarts.

They have people with Street Smarts who are adults on the street with no future, no money, no anything but their wits. They have people with phds that live in poverty and misery.
It really depends on the path you wish to take. A good education is a good tool to have in my opinion. But an educated dummy is a like a monkey with a hammer.

Book smart guarentees u a comfortable, safe ,sucessful life. If u r book smart u need not to be street smart because u will not be in or around circumstance that requires u to be street smart. You do not get any brownie points or a degree for being street smart. You can not put that on your resume.

. Street smarts is just life experience.
. If you get yourself some book smarts, you are still going to have life experiences which will give you street smarts.
. But, if you decide against getting books smarts, life experience may make you wish you'd gotten books smarts, but it won't give you book smarts. So, get some book smarts,

Street smarts will get you through brooklyn. But both will get you through wall street. A degree frm harvard can get you a great job, but knowing how to lie can help you keep it. So you need a bit of both.
