For tonight start with a cool bath.. then WHILE he is in the bath give him his Tylenol (Motrin is OK at that age!) That way the Tylenol will just have to keep the fever down because the cool bath should have him cooled off! Also there are these things for teething that I swear by.. they are magic pills literally! They are all natural and highly recommended by my kids pediatrician.. they are Hylands teething tablets. You can buy them at wal-mart, ask the pharmacist. In the morning, make an app. at the doc to rule out an ear infection!

Now to set some of these people straight.. a cool bath will not cause shock unless the bath is VERY COLD and the fever is above 104.5.
It is not safe to let a fever be if it is under 102 because that will put your child at risk for a febrile seizure.. I went through that last summer with my now 2 year old.. DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD THROUGH THAT!!!

Good luck! Also.. give the kid a Popsicle!

HI THERE I KNOW FROM LOTS OF EXPERIENCE WHAT YO ARE GOING THREW RIGHT NOW. I'M A MOTHER OF TWO MY YOUNGEST IS 8 MONTHS OLD. BEFORE I WAS A FULL TIME MOMMY. I WAS A NURSE AT AN URGENT CARE. AND WITH WHICH I WORKED WITH AN AMAZING EMERGENCY ROOM DOCTOR. A LOT OF ANSWERS TOUCHED ON SOME GOOD POINTS. LIKE TYLENOL AND MOTRIN CAN BE ALTERNATED EVERY 3 HOURS(NOT 2). YES MOTRIN DOES TEND TO IRRITATE THE STOMACH IN SOME PEOPLE. MOTRIN ALSO LASTS LONGER IN YOUR SYSTEM 6-8 HOURS TO BE EXACT. INFANT TYLENOL COLD WORKS THE BEST FOR MY CHILD AND HELPED HER SLEEP BETTER ALSO. IF SHE KEEPS PULLING AT HER EARS AND THE FEVER DOSEN'T GO AWAY YOU SHOULD GO TO HER PEDIATRICIAN SO SHE CAN TAKE A LOOK IN HER EARS AND THEN MOMMY WILL HAVE PIECE OF MIND. AND IF IT IS AN EAR INFECTION MAKE SURE THEY PRESCRIBE THE NUMBING EAR DROPS LIKE AURALGAN OR AB OTIC. OHH YEAH AND ALWAYS GO BY WEIGHT AND NOT AGE WHEN FIGURING OUT DOSES FOR MEDICATION. I HOPE YOUR BABY FEELS BETTER SOON. TAKE CARE

Whether Tylenol is better than Motrin might very well depend on the specific baby. It likely won't hurt to give it a shot, both my kids reacted much better to Motrin than Tylenol.

When my son was sick like that, we would stroke his face with a lukewarm rag for awhile, that tended to settle him down. It's not much, but it's something. As for sleeping through the night, try the Motrin (or alternative) about twenty minutes before you lay him down (if you haven't already tried that) and his sleep will, if nothing else, last longer than it has been.

Of course, when in doubt, call the doctor. I hope the little guy feels better soon.

i heard that if you alternate tylenol and Motrin it is supposed to bring the fever down quicker. when my friends daughter had the roto virus her fevers were running 102 -103 and at the hospital one dose they gave her Motrin then when it was time for the next dose they gave her tylenol and it seemed to break the fever. also you can try getting some of those BE COOL STRIPS you can get then at any store they are strips of this blue jelly type stuff and you cut it to size then place on the forehead or back of neck. i use these on my son since he was little and he is 8 now he says they make him feel cooler, or you can just use cool compresses or a cool bath. he can be having fevers, runny nose, and tugging at his ear if he is teething, sometimes teething can make babies have diarrhea too. i am also a firm believer of motrin too he is not too young. i hoped this helped i hope your little one is feeling better soon!!!!

If his fever is under 102, the best thing is to just leave it alone and not do anything. Fevers are what help the body heal and if you treat it then it will take longer for the body to recover from whatever it is that's making your son sick.

If it's above 102, then treat it. Children's Tylenol works great in this case.

Keep him cool. Put him in lightweight clothing and make sure he isn't too hot.

Give him things to keep him cool as well. Let him suck on a popsicle or a wet washcloth.

As for Tylenol vs. Motrin, they both work great. If you're concerned about him being too young for Motrin, give him a small dose and see what happens. See what the lowest dosage is that they recommend and give him maybe half of that.

My advice would be to use Children's Advil. My doctor tells me to use this because my daughter has "Febrile Seizures" if her fevers shoot up too high (102-104). It is one of the best. Motrin is good too.
No offence, but I do not find Tylenol to be as effective as something that is made with 'ibuprofen' as Advil is.
And if your son's fever still presists, get him to a hospital!!!
To keep him comfortable, try placing cool cloths around the back of his neck and on his forehead, under supervision of course, it case they slip over his face.
Sometimes a cool bath will help as well to bring down the temperature.

Alternate tylenol with motrin. It's safe and very effective. Just make sure he's taking the right dose of each and you are giving them to him at the intervals.

If he's got a stuffy nose a really great trick is to put a small pillow or rolled-up towel under one side of his matress to prop it up a bit. It keeps his head elevated.

Hope he feels well soon.

If it is possible toask his/her doc. do so. If tyhe fever continues or exceedes 102 I would suggest an ER visit. try to keep the child comfortable. Wet cloths not cold baths. Keep hydrated too. You maybeable to rotate between tylonol and motrin to keep the amount of each different type of medication at a low level. Be careful, better safe than sorry!!!

Yes Tylenol ) (Acetaminophen) is better on tummies, even in adults.
It's Ibuprofen, which causes various stomach problems.
But Tylenol can cause liver problems with excessive use, so don't use too much. :)
Try a damp cloth on his body, all over.

Do NOT ever place him in a cold/cool bath as shock can happen.
If the fever doesn't break with medication after the expected time then bring him to the ER.

Call your pediatrician for advice. He or she may want to see your baby. You only mention the fever but nothing else. Does he have a cough, sniffles? Does he cry a lot? Not enough information. Again, rely on your pediatrician or nurse to give you some tips.
