They have sex more times than they will admit, as generally in a non-porn film, the idea is avoid an X rating by only simulating sex and hiding the genitals or genital areas - especially during the simulation of sexual intimacy, or fornication. But since in the "simulation" the genitals are hidden from view, it is possible, if the actors agree, to actually engage in the act to make the simulation look as real as possible - while at the same time maintaining plausible deniability that any sex was actually performed. Very clever and most movie goers are completely fooled and admire the quality of what they thought was acting - in fact if they knew what was really going on, they might actually admire the film less for lack of that quality.

No when it comes to mainstream Hollywood studio releases. The actor/actresses usually have flesh colored cod pieces or similar attire to cover their private parts. Lighting and camera angles also have an important role in making the scenes more realistic.

In most movies they aren't even fully naked. They usually covers certain parts of the actors' bodies with materials that are the color of their skin.... If you watch The Notebook with commentary, it actually discusses in better detail how they actually do the sex scenes.

I've never heard of actors actually having sex in those.
But in pornos, yes, they are actually having sex.

We see two people in bed with a sheet over them.
they see 40-80 camerapeople, directors, makeup people, teamsters, lighting people all around them.
plus, the shortest shots often take hours and hours. could you 'do it' knowing 40-80 peopel are waiting for you to finish so the next take can be filmed?

it does look very real. however they only really have sex in xxx movies. I heard a rumor that in the movie monster's ball, halle berry and billy bob thornton really have sex.

no those scenes are highly choreographed and many camera tricks as well as lighting and body doubles are used to create the illusion of actual lovemaking

In nearly all hollywood movies, no they don't. In some such as "nine songs" yes they did actually have sex, very contraversial that was.
