Karat (not to be confused with "carat" which is a gestone weight) is the measure of gold purity.
A volume of gold is divided into 24 parts. If it is pure gold it is 24 karat. If it is 18 parts gold and 6 parts another metal (like silver, copper, or nickel) it is 18 karat (or 75% pure gold).
Gold is weighed in Grains, Grams, Troy Ounces, Troy pounds, or Kilos

It isn't measured that way.
Gold is priced per troy ounce. The price is based on a purety level above 99%.
24 karat gold has more gold than 16 karat, but the price of gold remains constant. The other metal that is mixed with the gold also affects the price.

@falsi fiable is correct. White gold, no matter what karat, is not actual gold. The gold is mixed with another alloy and 24k gold is pure. 14k gold is 14/24 of pure gold but white gold is neither. The clarity you stated is not good quality. And the price you were given, even with the diamonds ctw, is way too much. Jewelers know this and choose not to disclose this information because they count on the customers ignorance. That price is a rip-off.
